Zed "Jerry" Gerald Jones

Zed Gerald Jones was born November 7, 1953, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He departed this world on 04/08/2024. “Jerry”, as he was affectionally known to family and friends, and was the youngest child of Cora Jones (widowed).

Jerry was born into a family with a rich heritage in their relationship with the Lord and was greatly loved by family and friends. He grew up in Philadelphia, and educated in the Philadelphia School system.  Jerry’s work life encompassed numerous occupations, including car mechanic. His employers praised his work ethics and were always sorry to see him move on to new endeavors.

Music was Jerry’s first love and over the years, he excelled in his talent for singing. He also enjoyed all sports and was able to share his athletic abilities both in his youth and during his time ministering at the church. 

After losing his connection with the Lord, Jerry was committed his life to Christ when he joined Cornerstone in 2007 and was baptized.  While at Cornerstone, he was leader of Christian recovery group, which met every Thursday. Jerry was a member of the church choir and ultimately became choir director.  Jerry also participated in the church’s weekly prayer service and their food pantry distribution regardless of the season.  He became the assistant director of the House of Adonai where he remained until he moved to New Jersey in 2019.

Jerry was extremely charismatic, and brought joy to many.  He became the “go to” man in his new community, where lived in the last years of his life. He shopped for his neighbors; took them to doctor appointments; and performed light maintenance work when requested. He is sorely missed by both family and friends.

Jerry is survived by his mother Cora Jones, his elder sister Shirley Alexander & her husband Eugene; sons Gerald, Maurice, & Elijah; grandsons, Terrell and Jeremy; and numerous Aunts, Uncles & cousins. Jerry also left behind his cats Bella and Casper, whom he loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at his funeral service Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 1pm in Cornerstone Community Church 3167 Frankford Ave. (at Allegheny) Philadelphia, PA 19134. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Shriner's Children's Hospital 3551 N. Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19140.
