James J. Spross "Bubber" passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Cherished son of the late James and Margaret (nee Redmond). Devoted father of Kathleen "Scootch" Doonan, Eric Spross (Donna), and the late Thomas Doonan. Loving Pop of Michael (Lauren), Brenna, Brandon, Eric, Grace, Will, Donovan and Great Grandpop of Braelynn and Emerie. Dear brother of Kathleen Linden (Dennis), Robert (Eileen), Nancy Barr (late James), Patricia Ashton (John), and Bernadette Edelstein (late Phil). Former spouse and dear friend of Kathleen Fenerty Spross. Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.
Bubber was a lifelong Fishtowner, born to his proud parents Jim and Peg. He grew up on Marlborough Street with his siblings and enjoyed life in a close knit Catholic family from Immaculate Conception Parish. He attended North Catholic High School and graduated Class of 1967. Shortly after, he entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. He worked for many years for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board while raising his family.
Bubber enjoyed life and was always the life of the party. He loved people and people loved him. He was a true hometown guy who loved all of his Philadelphia sports teams. He loved being with friends, especially at his favorite local bar, Dakota's, where he enjoyed a cold Budweiser in his own personalized "This Seat is Reserved for Bubber Spross" stool, which is now retired. His greatest joy will always be his family, especially his kids and grandkids. His time with them is what he treasured most.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation and funeral Tuesday September 3, 2019 beginning at 9:30am in St. Anne Church (upper). Funeral Mass 10:30am. Interment Wenonah Cemetery.
