Patrick H. Cain Sr. passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019, at the age of 71. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Mullen). Devoted father of Patrick H. Jr. (Colleen), Ryan M., and Mary E. (Jason Davis). Loving Poppy of Ava, Audrey, and Paddy H. III. Dear brother of Mary Morris. Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.
Pat was born to the late Henry P. Cain and Mary Tritz Cain on October 13, 1947. He was raised in St. Michael's parish and attended school there. He graduated from St. Michael's in 1963 and went on to graduate from Mercy Vocational High School in 1966. He worked as a truck driver for Ace Lumber, while raising his family with his wife Dorothy in Fishtown. He was also the owner and operator of Cain's Corner grocery store at Crease and Thompson for sometime but closed when his giving heart gave away more than he sold :) Pat was a beloved soccer coach who coached thousands of children and kept them off of the streets of Philadelphia. He was known to pile most of the team in his Volkwagen to get to games outside of the area, when many of their parents did not drive or could not be there. He was the coach of West Catholic from 1986-1991, Roman Catholic from 1991-2006 and Hallahan from 2006-present. He also gave so much of his time to Fishtown A.C. coaching many soccer and baseball teams.
Pat was known as the Legend of Philadelphia Youth Soccer but to his family and friends he will be most remembered for his generous heart. For over twenty years, Pat would run We Care Soccer Camp, a free camp for any child wishing to attend. This gave kids who may not be able to afford other camps an opportunity to have fun and learn the game of soccer. Pat also had a huge place in his heart for the homeless and those suffering from addiction and would always try to help them. He loved all people and will be painfully missed by so many who had the privilege of knowing him, but especially by his beloved family.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his life Saturday June 22, 2019 beginning at 8:30am in St. Michael's Church (2nd and Jefferson Sts) Philadelphia PA 19122, where his funeral mass will begin at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests and appreciates any donation to Hearts for Haley www.haleymorrisfoundation.org
