Andrew N. "Andy" Riehs

Andrew Neuman Riehs, Jr.,of Burholme, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 23, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, after courageously fighting an eight-year-long battle with cancer.

Born on August 17, 1957, in Philadelphia, Andrew was the beloved son of the late Marie Pamela Dunlap and Andrew Neuman Riehs, Sr. He was a proud graduate of Father Judge High School, Class of 1976, and attended St. Martin of Tours Parish elementary School.

A fourth-generation florist, Andy carried on the proud family tradition at Riehs Flowers (5th & Girard) and Andy’s Flowers (Frankford Avenue). His artistry, dedication, and genuine care for the families he served made him a respected figure in the Philadelphia floral community.

In addition to his floral work, Andy spent 15 years as a Live Event Security Boss at The Tower Theater, The Fillmore Philadelphia, The Theater of Living Arts, and Punchline Philadelphia. He took great pride in helping ensure that live music and performances could be enjoyed safely by countless fans.

His life was guided by his passions — especially his love for baseball. A lifelong Phillies fan, he often said, “There’s never a bad baseball season — some just end better than others,” and lived by the motto, “Two seasons: baseball season and waiting for baseball season.” When he wasn’t cheering on his team, he could be found listening to sports radio or spending time with his family, who were the center of his world.

He was honored to have served as an altar boy for Pope John Paul II during his visit to St. Peter’s. Throughout his years working live events, he cherished the chance to see many incredible artists take the stage — among his favorites were Patti LaBelle and Tom Petty.

Above all, Andy loved his family deeply. He treasured every moment spent with his wife, children, nieces, nephews, and especially his two granddaughters, Roxanne Jeanne Riehs and Ophelia Dawn Johnson, who brought him endless joy.

His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for life will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is the beloved husband of Dawn Saltmer Riehs, devoted father of Rachel Lynn Johnson (Johnathan K.) and Andrew Michael Riehs.   Adored grandfather of Ophelia Dawn Johnson and Roxanne Jeanne Riehs. Dear brother of Andrea Ansell (Norman), Christopher, Grace, Robert "Robbie", Joseph (Donna) and the late Marie. Sadly missed by 2 generations of nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday October 30, 2025 beginning at 6 PM, in the Visconto Funeral Home Inc, 2031 Vista Street (Vista and Large Sts.) (Ample parking and handicap accessibility in rear of Building). followed by Prayers and Words of remembrance at 8:30 PM. Further arrangements will be private.
