Bonnie D'Ignazio Obituary

Bonnie D’Ignazio went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2021. She leaves behind her loving husband, Marion “Shorty” Mains and her beloved son, Shawn D’Ignazio (Krissy), grandchildren Sophia and Jackson, stepson Michael Mains, nieces Courtney and Julie, and nephews Michael and Jimmy. She is now together in Heaven with her parents, Ida (Edward) and Leonard D’Ignazio, and her siblings, Leonard Jr. (Sally) and Dorothy. Bonnie will be sadly missed by many great nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

Bonnie lived most of her life in Media, Pennsylvania, a 1969 graduate of Penncrest High School. Her younger years were spent romping through her family’s many restaurants: The Clover Leaf (Ida & Leonard), The Town House (Silvio “Babe” & Libby), Len’s Place (Len Jr.), and Duffers, Media (Dorothy). She was also the General Manager of the Port O Call Hotel in Ocean City, NJ, and a realtor for Century 21 before turning to highway construction with Road Con for many years driving a dump truck and working the jack hammer. She then owned a flagging company, Bonnie D’s, and sponsored many youth baseballs teams and a men’s softball team with the same name. This is how she met the love of her life, Shorty. In the 1980’s, at the age of 33 Bonnie ran for Mayor of Media. She retired from the Rose Tree Media School District in 2014 where she drove the school bus everyday for 13 years.

Bonnie loved to learn and earned several degrees over the years: Bachelor’s of Restaurant Management from Brandywine College (Weidner University), Associates in Highway Engineering from Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, and a Masters in Psychology and Christian Counseling from Newman University. She taught Vacation Bible School every summer and volunteered countless hours to House of His Creation ministering to women with unexpected pregnancies. An avid crocheter, Bonnie would knit blankets and scarves for donation to Wounded Warriors.

For many years, Bonnie brought light and laughter to the hearts of thousands of children as she posed as the Easter Bunny for the Easter Seals and at the Granite Run Mall. Every year, her and Shorty dressed as Santa and Mrs. Clause and made their rounds to Concord Country Club, various Christmas parties, and their beloved church, Middletown Presbyterian.

Her love for the Lord was evident as she spent her days reading her Bible and praying for everyone she knew. Her church families meant the world to her. She was very active in both Middletown Presbyterian and Wesley United Methodist Church in Woodbine, NJ. She loved to sing with their choirs, teach Sunday School, and fellowship with the congregations.

To know Bonnie is to know her only son, Shawn, even if you never met him. He was the center of her world and her greatest accomplishment. The unconditional love she felt for him and his family were evident whenever she proudly spoke of him – and that was often!

An unyielding companion, caretaker and true love to her husband, Shorty; they were never apart. They both retired in 2014 and made their dream a reality by spending her remaining years at their beloved home at the shore in Tuckahoe, NJ.

Bonnie will always be remembered for her big, beautiful smile, her love of life, her fun, outgoing personality, and her fearless spirit. She will sadly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
