Charles Arnold Milburn was born April 15, 1953 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Charles was the oldest of two children and the only son born to James Matthew Milburn and Jean Frances Arnold Milburn. Charles was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System where he attended James Roads Elementary School, H.C. Lea Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1970. Charles continued his education attending the Philadelphia College of Art for two years. Charles attended the Refuge Church of Christ during his youth where he was baptized at age fourteen. He was attended Sunday School regularly, sang in the Youth Choir and participated many youth activities. Charles was very artistic, he loved drawing and painting but mostly he loved illustrating and designing fashion. He designed many prom dresses and wedding dresses for family members and friends and at one point taught himself to sew, making the dresses he designed himself. Charles began his working life as a clerk for the Insurance Company of North America, he then moved on as a clerk for Public Health Management Corporation. Charles retired from the Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company in 2018 where he worked for 25 years in financial/payroll departments. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James Milburn in 2003 and Jean Arnold Milburn in 2009. Also, his partner of twenty-four years J. Michael Coleman in 2020. Charles leaves to cherish his memory his sister Catherine May; niece Robyn May-Harris; uncle Charles Arnold; aunts Madeline Arnold; Gudrun Arnold and a host of cousins and friends.
Friends and family are invited to Charles' viewing on Friday, May 7 6:00 PM at McElvarr Funeral Home 1415-17 E. Susquehanna Avenue. There will be a graveside and committal service Saturday, May 8 11AM at Rolling Green Memorial Park 1008 W Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. We ask that all those attending services wear a mask and maintain social distancing.
