Charles V. Rafter

Charles V. Rafter "Choo-Choo Charlie" passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023 at the age of 88. His loving family was by his side. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Thomas and Emma (nee Buck).

Charlie was raised in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia and was a parishioner of St. Anne parish, which was also where he made all of his sacraments and attended school. He was always a very active person who loved sports. He played rough touch football for the Third Base Bar into his late adulthood and was an avid jogger until his health issues hindered him, only in the last few years.  Charlie also enjoyed trips to the shore especially Wildwood, with Doris and the family.

Charlie was a dock worker for Smith's Transfer until his retirement and was a proud Teamster. He worked hard and always provided for his family. Charlie loved his wife dearly and was a devoted father who took his daughter everywhere with him. He cherished family more than anything. His favorite holiday was Christmas because it was the time he would go house to house, visiting those he loved. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Charlie is the beloved husband of Doris (nee Crockett). Devoted father to Carol "Maggie" (Anthony Okomski Sr.) and stepfather of John Brown. Loving grandpop to Anthony Okomski Jr. (Jessica), Jason Gallagher, Tony Brown, Michael Brown, the late Andrew Gallagher, and great grandfather of Charleigh, Willow, Delilah, Kayla, Emma ,Kylie, Connor, Anthony, Harley, and Jamison. Dear brother of Joseph (Betty), and the late Thomas, Eleanor Earle, Emma Fitzgerlad, and Raymond Rocks. Sadly missed by his godson Joseph Rafter Jr. and his many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Saturday November 4, 2023 beginning at 9am in St. Anne Church (lower) 2328 East Lehigh Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral Mass 10:30am. Interment will take place at a later date.
