Charles "Chick" Schaal Obituary

Charles “Chickie” Schaal passed away on May 5th, surrounded by family comfortably at Pennsylvania Hospital. He was the loving husband of Karen (Klenk), and loving Father and best friend to his son Brendan Schaal. Chickie was the son of the late Patrica Collins (Brady), and loving brother to Susan (Hines), Joseph, and predeceased by Michael ( Bear). He is survived by many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and the extended Hines, Klenk, and Otzel Families.

Charles attended Ascension grade School, and was a graduate of North Catholic High School, Class of 1972. After attending some college Chickie would go on to begin his Bartending Career at McDougal's Restaurant, Eddie's Cafe, the Phillies (Aramark), and as an Insurance Agent for the Perzel Insurance Agency. At each venture Chick would establish friendships which lasted over his lifetime. Chickie had a great sense of humor, was an avid Philly sports fan, coached the Saint Laurentius basketball team, but his favorite team was his family. He would watch his last Phillies game with his family on the night before he passed. He told us he liked the Phillies and Pirates that night, and he was right picking winners up until the end.

Chick was an avid reader and particularly loved studying and reading about the Greatest Generation and the World War Two era. Besides reading he enjoyed thoroughbred racing, bird watching and Nature hikes. Chick loved to listen to the Beatles, Rod Stewart, Frank Sinatra, and Boz Scaggs. He would spend any vacation or free time he had at the Jersey Shore, Florida and the Islands. Later in life Chick would take up Yoga, and he incorporated the Yoga principles into everyday life. He was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Parish which provided him with support, comfort and prayers during his struggle with Esophageal Cancer. He was a devout follower of Padre Pio and lived simply by his words of Pray, Hope, and don’t Worry until his last days.

We would like to extend our thanks for the support of his many friends, neighbors, and last but not least his family. Our thanks to the Surgical, Oncology, Radiology, Nursing, and Medical staff at Pennsylvania Hospital that provided him with compassionate care during his bout with Cancer. Whenever we would say love you, Chick would reply “What's not to love”. He will be always loved, sadly missed, and never forgotten.
