Charles H. "Chalie" Prem Obituary

"CHALIE" was born in Philadelphia on October 7, 1934, to the late Mary Whitman and was raised by her until she married Francis 'Earl' Shaw.  He passed away peacefully at his Fishtown home at the age of 90.

Chalie worked as a machinist for 30 years at Jack Frost Sugar Refinery until they closed here. He later worked in maintenance at Olde Kensington Pavilion Senior Housing and retired from there at age 77.  Chalie was a simple man. He worked hard all his life and enjoyed his weekends in Wildwood Crest where we spent our summers during our grade school years, thanks to Mom and Dad. Later when we were grown dad enjoyed those days fishing and crabbing in West Wildwood. He loved having family and friends over for crabs after a day on the bay. He couldn’t wait until the month of July so he could get his Jersey tomatoes and silver white corn. He actually wanted to make his famous fried tomatoes nine days before his passing. In his older years he loved playing the lottery and those scratchy tickets.  His famous words every time he played his numbers, Do you believe it ? I had two out of three again! We will miss you Daddy and all the scratchy dust you left behind we will still be sweeping it up. Oh, and he loved football season and his Eagles and yes, he would place a bet here and there. May you rest and enjoy all that heaven has to offer you and we hope it’s a younger body and a big lottery win. With all our love and your devotion to us you will live forever in our hearts.

Chalie is preceded in death by his wife Lillian 'Toots' Krause, his son George Jason, sister Joan Flaherty and in laws: Kitty and Connie Lindline, George Krause 'Moocher' and Virginia 'Ginny" Krause Lyons.

Chalie is survived by his four children: Charles (Kathy), James (Lorinda), Theresa (Eddie), and Pat (Dereak). His sister Mary McGuigan, 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren 5 months to 24 years old. He will be especially missed by his grandson Franny who cared for him and was by his side until the end. Pop had many friends that were his extended family that cared for him and send their love for eternal rest. His nieces and nephews will remember their Uncle Chalie with memories from their childhood.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday September 19, 2025 beginning at 10:30 AM, and to his Funeral Mass at 11 AM, in HOLY NAME OF JESUS CHURCH, 701 East Gaul Street, Fishtown.  Chalie will be laid to rest with Toots immediately following in Palmer Cemetery.
