Dorida R. Lavelle "Dorrie" passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024 at the age of 60. She was born on September 17, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dorrie devoted her life to her family. As a young girl, she always looked after her siblings and remained a constant source of dependability and love for them throughout their lives. When she met her soul mate and husband Jim, she embraced being a wife and mother and this became her life's mission...that was until she became a Mom-Mom, her most cherished title. She loved her grandkids immensely and was there for them for everything, just as she was for her own kids. Always the nurturer, Dorrie welcomed anyone who needed her and always opened her home and her heart to them, whether it was her nieces and nephews, her childrens' friends, or her neighbors. She was generous and kind, and so beautiful, always making sure she looked her best, something that came easy to her. Dorrie left this life and performed one last selfless act by participating in the Gift of Life Donor Program, an organization that helps give the gift of life to so many.
Dorrie is the beloved wife of James Nelson "Jim" Lavelle. Devoted mother of Brooke (Joe), Tiffany, Rae-Lyn Burger (Rich), Kennedy, and Lauren "Lavelle". Loving Mom-Mom to Bryan, Richard, Patrick, Melanie Raechel, Mia Flo, Mila James, James, and Rhys. Dear sister of Michael, Lisa, Daniel (Lisa), Marissa, Teri, and the late Raymond, Gregory, George, and David. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her life Tuesday November 26, 2024 beginning at 10am in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral service to follow at 12pm. The family asks all those in attendance and who are able to wear purple, Dorrie's favorite color. In lieu of flowers and in honoring Dorida's kind heart and love of children, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to a charity that benefits children for Christmas, her favorite holiday.
