Dr. J. Gerard (Jerry) Halloran passed away at the age of 66, surrounded by his family at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital on July 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Halloran, his mother, Rosemary V. Halloran (Harkins), and his brother Stephen J. Halloran. He is survived by his wife, Laura A. Halloran (Harris) and his five children.
He married Laura A. Halloran in 1980 and has been her beloved husband and constant companion for over 41 years. His largest source of pride in life was being the father to his children: Bridget Nickols (Joel), James (Barbara), Bonnie, Ryan, and David. He will be sadly missed by his sisters and brother: Rosemary Mahoney (Timothy), Christine Monteleone (Thomas), and Timothy Halloran (Janice), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jerry led an ambitious life and had a long list of accomplishments. When he was young, he won the Philadelphia Inquirer’s “Newspaper Boy of the Year” award and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. As an adult, he achieved the rank of Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus alongside his father and brother, Tim. These achievements helped open the doors of success for him.
He was a graduate of the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire (1973). He received his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. (1977). He was awarded the Gonstead Chiropractic Educational Trust Scholarship in 1982 and graduated magna cum laude from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri, where he received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree (1982). He has been in continuous practice since that time.
He was a devout Catholic and answered a calling to the vocation of teaching at Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pennsylvania. He taught Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology as well as Medical Careers. He inspired and mentored students pursuing a future in health care occupations by serving as the moderator for his school’s chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).
Patient health and safety was also a top priority for him. In addition to this, he served as the Chairman of the Pennsylvania State Board of Chiropractic Examiners until his recent passing. He proudly served in this role, protecting the citizens of Pennsylvania.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He touched so many lives and has left a large hole that will be very difficult to fill. He will be truly missed and never forgotten.
Relatives, friends and all organizations of which he was a member are invited to his visitation on Saturday August 27, 2022 beginning at 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, in St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. 19114 Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
