Edward W. Hoffman Sr. passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 at the age of 91. He was born on March 12, 1933 to the late William and Lillian (nee Koenig). Beloved husband of the late Stella (nee Stark). Devoted father of Edward (Susan), Diane, Theresa (late Michael DiArenzo), and the late Stella Harr (Harry "Rocky"). Loving grandfather of Edward Hoffman (Jillian), Jonathan Hoffman (Caroline), Francis Harr, Harry Harr, Michael DiArenzo (Alyssa), Nicholas DiArenzo and great grandfather of Edward, Wyatt, Georgia, Carson, Blake, Peyton, Jonathan, and Myla Mae. Dear brother of the late Bill, John, Tom, Joe, Jim, Bernice, and Eleanor. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Edward was a lifelong resident of Fishtown. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War Era and was a proud veteran. Later, he worked as a letter carrier for the USPS, and remained there until his retirement, earning the nickname "Fast Eddie" for his quick and efficient delivery of mail on his route. In his downtime, Edward enjoyed fishing, crabbing, going to church at Bethel Baptist Church and being with his family. He was a faithful husband and dedicated his life to his children. Edward will always be remembered for his quiet but outgoing personality and his competitive nature, especially when playing longboard. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Thursday January 9, 2025 beginning at 10am in the McElvarr Funeral Home 1415-17 East Susquehanna Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19125 (Fishtown). His funeral service will begin at 11:30am, Interment to follow in Palmer Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved Stella. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the Delaware Valley Veteran's Home for their compassionate care of Mr. Hoffman and all veterans. Donations can also be made for the upkeep and care of Palmer cemetery.
