Elizabeth "Betty" McHale was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to the late John and Anna Suravicz Chapasco. She attended local schools and graduated from West Mahanoy Township High School. It was in Shenandoah that she met and married Thomas McHale, and they began their family there. After a mining accident almost cost her husband his life, she encouraged them to move to Philadelphia. She settled in St. Anne's parish in 1953 and there she stayed. Her children attended St. Anne's School and Elizabeth was very active in parish life. She was a member of the Rosary Society and St. Anne Guild, and she attended the annual Novena as well as frequenting the St. Anne's Senior Center.
Betty was well known for her cooking and baking skills. Her specialties were Polish delicacies. She was an avid reader and even had newspapers from the Shenandoah area delivered to her Philadelphia home. She and the family also enjoyed their home in the Endless Mountains in Sullivan County, near Hillsgrove and Dushore, Pa.
Betty is the beloved wife of the late Thomas. Devoted mother of Tony McHale (Barbara), Jimmy McHale (Denise), Betty Lampart (Sonny), Susan De Los Angeles (Tony) and the late Thomas McHale. Loving grandmom to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Jackie Chapasco.
