Betty was born in Philadelphia to the late Frank and Elizabeth Gillooly Sullivan.
Elizabeth (Betty) Sullivan Gill O’Brien was a lifelong and proud resident of Fishtown, Philadelphia and later, a summer resident of Ocean City, NJ. Known for her love of all things Philadelphia, crossword puzzles, books, a cup of tea, and a Perfect Manhattan. Betty enjoyed daily walks (often picking up wayward trash along the way), daily Mass, Friday night get-togethers with friends, Stocks pound cake, the Philadelphia Art Museum, and above all, her friends and family. She was proudly Irish and even more proudly American. She was passionate about politics and current events, read the newspaper cover-to-cover daily, was a devoted listener of WHYY radio, and was a weekly visitor to her local library - both in Fishtown and Ocean City.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Francis X. Gill and her second husband, Thomas J. O’Brien, Jr. Although there were sad days, Betty always maintained an optimistic outlook on life and a happy and grateful heart.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted and loyal friend, a good listener, and expert at good conversation and putting people at ease. She was known for checking in on people and sending cards for every occasion. Betty was often the person who planned or hosted the next get-together.
We say goodbye to a great lady and are comforted by knowing she will be rejoicing in heaven.
