Erna M. Flanagan

Erna Flanagan (nee Barth) passed on August 25th, 2022 at the age of 66, following a long, courageous bout with cancer.  Erna was the devoted wife of Francis Flanagan, Jr.  She was the beloved mother to: Kevin Barth, Francis Flanagan III, and Bridget & Anthony Knarr.  She was the cherished grandmother of Austin, Aidan, Hayley, Preston, Cameron, Skyler, Amari, and Ava, as well as great-grandmother to Paisley and Maverick.  Erna was also much loved by her siblings: Margaret Spadea, Wayne & Rita Demo, Elwood & Yvonne Barth, and  Anna Flanagan.  Her passing is also mourned by the many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that she left behind.  She will no doubt be guided through the next phase of life by the loved ones who have passed on before her: parents Eugene and Thelma Demo, mother-in-law Joan Flanagan, aunt Marian Bauder, and siblings Eugene & Patricia Demo, Patrick Flanagan, and John Spadea.

Erna was a life-long resident of the Fishtown section in Philadelphia.  She worked several jobs in the area including: teacher's aide at Adaire Elementary School, cashier and cake decorator at the former Port Richmond Thriftway, cook at Les and Doreen's Happy Tap, director of several day camp and other programs for the Fishtown Recreation Center and Cione Playground, and volunteer at Holy Name of Jesus Parish.

Erna's giving nature and infectious laugh will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community.

Relatives, friends and all whose Erna's life touched are invited to her Funeral Mass on Friday September 2, 2022 at 11 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church, where all may gather beginning at 10 AM.  Interment will follow in Palmer Cemetery.
