Gary O. Muzyczka "Monk" passed away on April 10, 2023 at the age of 63. He was born on October 25, 1959 to the late John and Olga (nee Stahk) Muzyczka.
Gary is survived by his children Mark McCarty (Christie), James "Jay" McCarty, Krystina Colwell (Drew), Gary Muzyczka (Rachel), and Kayla Schick (Shane); his grandchildren Daniel, Dylan, Mason, and Amelia; his siblings Helen Pisarek (Steve), Steven Muzyczka (Andrea), Al Muzyczka (Merry), Michael Muzyczka, and Kathie O'Brien-Ruiz (Jerry); and his many nieces and nephews. Gary is predeceased by his parents and his siblings John Muzyczka (Mary), Eugene Muzyczka, Lida Dickinson, Myron Muzyczka (Carol), and Jereslow Muzyczka.
Gary was raised in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia and lived there until moving to Port Richmond, where he stayed for the remainder of his life. Gary had a love of music that started in his childhood. During his high school years, he sang for the Philadelphia Boys Choir, where he earned a role in the play "Jesus Christ Superstar". Throughout his adulthood, his love of music continued as he was always listening to music and singing, even while cooking, which was another of his talents.
Gary will always be remembered for his great personality and for being a "people person". You could always find him standing on the corner, talking to anyone who passed by. This gave him the title of being the unofficial mayor of Port Richmond. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him, especially his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Thursday April 13, 2023 beginning at 6:30pm in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral service 8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests and appreciates any donations towards his final expenses.
