George Dixon Obituary

Bud was born in Philadelphia to the late Edwin and Dorothy Smith Dixon. He passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 surrounded by his devoted wife, Peg, and his loving family.
Bud was a Sergeant serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. and exemplified the philosophy of once a Marine, always a Marine. His fellow Marines and his sister, Dot, who also served in the Marine Corp., were never far from his thoughts, and he enjoyed celebrating the Marine Corp. birthday year after year in South Philadelphia with family and friends.
Bud worked for more than 38 years as a truck driver in the Teamsters, and after retiring, he worked in construction. He was a skilled and accomplished carpenter.
Bud always took pride in his sharp appearance. His striking silver hair, often savage tan, and dapper wardrobe earned him the nickname the “Silver Fox”. Later in life, he favored a more comfortable style, and he became known for his trademark colorful suspenders. Bud had a fondness for cars and motorcycles, including a 1949 Mercury, a 1948 Harley-Davidson, and numerous Cadillacs.
Bud enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore and the Poconos and traveling with his wife Peg. He enjoyed dancing, camping and fishing with his boys, and spending time on the boat he shared with his son. Bud cherished card night with his sisters, doing puzzles, and spending time on the deck that he built enjoying one of his favorite drinks, a Wawa cappuccino or a cold Budweiser. Bud also loved his many pets through the years, including Rocky, Max, Teddy Bear, Killer, and his beloved coral aquarium. Bud had a special love for the Christmas season, which was not complete without an excursion to cut down just the right Christmas tree, decorating the house from top to bottom, and making his signature eggnog for the family to enjoy.
He had a passion for life and a personality that would light up the room. Bud was a consummate joker, often pulling practical jokes on family and friends. He was quick to laugh and had a warm greeting for everyone he met. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, and he will be missed more than words can say.
In addition to his wife, the former Peg Kueny, he is survived by children, George 'Buddy' Dixon (Natalie), Thomas Dixon (Tina), Keith Dixon (Diane), Bryan Dixon (Stacie), John Orr (Mary), Margaret Busse (Joseph), Catherine Robinson, Richard Orr (Jacqueline) and the late Eugene Orr. Brother of Gladys Rebstock (the late Gerry), Marion Gallagher (Thomas) Elizabeth Comorote and the late Dorothy Strikey (the late Joe). Sadly missed by two generations of grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral on Friday, August 1, 2025, beginning at 8:30 AM in the HUBERT M. McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2357 E. Cumberland St., where his Service of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM. Bud will be interred at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
