George J. Schmid Sr.

George J. Schmid Sr. passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 81. He is the beloved husband of 61 years to Patricia (nee Gallagher). Devoted father of Debbie Ferry (Mark), George J. Schmid Jr. (Jeannette), Tricia Milligan (Greg), and Denise Becker. Loving Pop to Krysta, Joseph, Thomas, Rachel, Patrick, Nicholas, Shane, Evan, Sydney, and Courtney. 

George was a proud firefighter who worked for the Philadelphia Fire Department for over 40 years. Even when he was not working he kept himself busy. He was an all around natural handyman who could fix anything. He was also the best drywall repairman on the planet. At 81 years of age he still enjoyed weightlifting and exercising. In his downtime, he enjoyed watching his TV shows such as Seinfeld and Svengoolie or listening to his rock and roll music. You would always know when he was watching Seinfeld because you could hear his belly laughs from the other room. George  treasured his time spent at his shore house, especially when his family was with him, and also traveling with them to Disney World and on cruises. 

George will be remembered as a kind and gentle man and anyone who knew him would tell you that he was truly a nice man. He would do anything for his family, especially his grandchildren. They were his number one. He supported them in everything they did and would always ask "Need a crisp $20 bill?" He was also very proud of his grandsons who are serving our country in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. 

As much as George loved his family, they loved him and cherished every moment with him. They will miss him tremendously and take comfort in their many memories with him. 

Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his life Wednesday September 14, 2022 beginning at 10:30am in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia PA 19125. Funeral service 12pm.
