Jacqueline B. McCandless (née Ferris) “Jackie” passed away on June 19, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Philadelphia to the late John “Jack” and Rita Ferris and was a lifelong resident of Fishtown, living in the same home on Blair Street for over 56 years, first with her parents and eight siblings, then raised her own 4 children there.
Jackie was a devoted mother and MomMom whose greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a gifted storyteller, keeping everyone entertained with her imagination and wit. She would tell her grandchildren that she was a professional female wrestler or even a real witch, and they would hang on to every word, eagerly sharing MomMom’s stories with anyone who would listen. Jackie also had a deep love for music, especially the songs of The Police and Sting. Her laughter, creativity, and the special memories she created with those she loved will be cherished forever.
Jacqueline is the devoted mother of Jacqueline Hunt (Pasquale Lapetina), Thomas McCandless (Jill Maguire ), Michael Arnoldy (Nicole Kirby) and the late Helen McCandless. Loving MomMom and Big MomMom to William, Kristen, and Thomas (Tum) Weiss; Tejay, Jacqueline, and the late Alyssa Dawn Hunt; Sienna and Mikayleigh Arnoldy; Thomas McCandless; Gianna Arena; and Gizelle, Avianna, Benjamin, and Jaxson. Dear sister of Rita Sears (Joseph), Joey, Marie (Deegan), Patricia Zirelli (Joe), Michael, Billy, and the late Johnny, and LuAnn Sottnick. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her life Thursday June 25, 2026 beginning at 9:30am in the McElvarr Funeral Home 1415-17 East Susquehanna Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19125 (Fishtown).
