Jim was born in Philadelphia to the late James D.B. Weiss, Sr. and Elizabeth Townsend Weiss. He passed away on Monday at Bala Nursing Center.
Known as Mr. Fishtown, Jim was well known for his involvement in local activities and organizations. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics, He served in the US Army during WWII and saw duty overseas, he remained in the reserves for many years and was discharged as Lieutenant Colonel. Jim served as Commander of the Elm Tree Post 88 American Legion.
Jim was an educator with the Philadelphia School District and taught at Penn Treaty for 15 years. Among his achievements were memberships in the Philadelphia Horticultural Society, President and Trustee of Palmer Cemetery, The Philadelphia Historical Society , The Soup Kitchen and Fishtown Civic Association.
Jim marched to his own drum, as his friend Andy Schwab said "He was an educator, and an officer in the Army he gave orders, he was not receptive to taking orders.
Due to the current restrictions and at the request of the family, services will be private. Jim will be interred at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, Pa.
