John T. Beck Sr.

John T. Beck Sr., age 58, passed away on April 27, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He had been courageously battling cancer, facing each day with strength, grit, and determination—true to the way he lived his life. Born on August 28, 1966, in Philadelphia to the late Thomas and Alice (nee Allmond) Beck, John was a man who left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

A longtime resident of the Kensington section of Philadelphia before relocating to the Port Richmond area, John was a roofer through and through—dedicated to his craft for over 40 years. Roofing wasn’t just his job; it was part of who he was. Whether under a blazing sun or in his toughest health battles, you’d still find him on a rooftop, working beside the friends and family he loved most. He passed the trade down to the next generation with tough love, calloused hands, and a proud sense of purpose.

Outside of work, John found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a good game of pool, the rumble of a motorcycle, a cold beer in hand, and time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was bold, honest, and unapologetically himself. If he didn’t like you, you knew it—but if he did, he’d do anything for you. His presence was loud, loyal, and unforgettable.

John is the devoted father of John T. Jr. (Laura), Tracy (Shareef), and Jennifer (Chris); loving Grandpop to John T. III, Shareef Jr., and baby Amelia, who he was anxiously waiting to meet. He is the beloved brother of Thomas (Maryanne), Alice Franklin (William), David (Anita), Dana (John), and Daniel (Sherry), and held a lifelong bond with Jim Hadlock, who was like a brother. He is deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of friends who were lucky enough to call him theirs.

Though gone too soon, John’s legacy lives on—in every story told, every rooftop walked, and every lesson passed down. We take comfort knowing he is reunited in heaven with loved ones who went before him—and that he’s finally at peace.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral on Monday, May 12, 2025, beginning at 3:00 PM at Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home, 2357 East Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral service to follow at 4:30 PM. Interment will be private
