John D. Sosnowski, age 69, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, John was born and raised in the heart of St. Anne’s Parish, where he remained rooted throughout his life. He was the son of the late John and Laura Sosnowski (née Okomski), whose values of hard work and family he carried with him always.
John dedicated over 30 years of service to the Philadelphia Housing Authority, working tirelessly in maintenance to provide a strong and steady foundation for his family. His hands were always busy — whether fixing what was broken or lending help where it was needed — but his heart was never far from home.
A true Philly sports fan, John had a deep love for the Eagles — even if that meant a few loud opinions shouted at the TV on game day. He found joy in the simple things: a quiet morning on the water with a fishing rod, an afternoon on the golf course, and most of all, time spent with his family, who meant everything to him.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Jane Sosnowski (née Spross), who stood by his side through all of life’s seasons. He was a devoted father to John T. Sosnowski, and a proud, loving Pop to Jordan, who brought a special light to his life. He is also survived by his sister Diane Skinner (late James), and was preceded in death by his sisters Susan Sosnowski and Margaret Harris (late Joseph). John will be missed dearly by his many nieces, nephews, and friends who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of John on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM at the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home, 2357 East Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
John’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication — to his family, to his work, and to the community he called home. He will be remembered with warmth and deep affection.
