It is with profound sadness that Missy and Joe Jr. announce the passing of their beloved father, Joseph R. Burns, Sr. He peacefully departed on May 27, 2024, at the age of 87. His passions included cheering on the Phillies, reading every newspaper he could get from cover to cover, and curating his massive map collection. He will be remembered for his love of good food and geography. He was a proud lifelong resident of Fishtown.
Joseph, affectionately known as Chubby, was born in Philadelphia on April 5, 1937, to the late Harry and Helen (nee Whartnaby). Loving father to Missy (William, deceased) and Joseph (Eileen), devoted stepfather to Nino (Tara) and Kimberly (deceased). He was adored by his grandchildren, Stacy (Steven), Carolyn (Gary), Samantha, William, Jr. (deceased), Michael, Caitlin (Ronald), Franco, and Brando, and was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne (nee King), whom he was married to for 44 years, and Caroline (nee Ladd), his first wife and mother of his children. Brother to the late Reds and Donald (Isabel, deceased), uncle to Donald, Harry, Dee Dee, Jimmy, Joanne, and Joey, and the children of Grace, Samuel, Elizabeth, Chrissy, Kitty, and David. Cousin to Blinky and Joe and a friend to many.
Interment private.
