Joseph Whitehead Obituary

Joseph M. Whitehead passed away on October 11, 2021 just days before his 67th birthday, after a long courageous battle with brain cancer. He is the beloved son of Mary and the late Joseph Hagan and the late Joseph Whitehead. Dear husband of Mary Ellen (nee Dodds). Devoted father of Mary Claire, Kathleen, and Bridget. Cherished brother of Mary Czajkowski, James Whitehead (Cecelia), Debbie Hagan, Patty Hagan Maiorana (Leo), Maureen Hagan, William Hagan (Jennifer), and the late Grace Mattera (George). Sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was raised in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and remained there for most of his life, until relocating to State Line, Pennsylvania twenty years ago. He attended St. Anne Catholic School and North Catholic High School, where he graduated class of 1972. Joe was a hard worker, and a very strong man who always provided for his family. He was a huge sports fan who loved all of his Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles. He also loved to play golf and listen to classic rock. He even knew how to play the harmonica. Joe will be remembered most for his great sense of humor and was known to tell the best stories and jokes. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his life on Saturday October 16, 2021 beginning at 9:15am in St. Anne Church (lower) 2328 East Lehigh Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral mass 10:30am.
