Joseph "JoeBob" Roberts, Sr.

Joe was born in Philadelphia to the late Calvin Roberts Sr. ( Molly ) and the late Rita Otto Roberts.  He attended Adaire Elemantary, Stetson Middle School and Mastbaum High School.  He was a proud US Navy Veteran, serving in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.  He was stationed on the USS Oriskany and the USS Albert David.  

He was a Philadelphia Firefighter for near 30 years, and served at Ladder 16 and Bridesburg 31. He loved all things firefighting, including listening to the fire band scanner and chasing fires.  He fought the Medidian Plaza high rise fire that reached 12 alarms on February 23, 1991. JoeBob was landed on the roof by helicopter to assist in firefighting and rescue efforts to aid trapped firemen.  He was a proud member of IAFF # 22

Upon retiring from Fire Department we drove for Lyft and Uber.  Among his favorite things were puzzles ( crossword and soduku ) and trivia games. A lover of spontaneous car rides, the family  usually ending up in Lancaster or New York. He loved dining at Red Lobster and watching videos about trains and funny cats.

He is the loving husband to Cathy ( nee Ladzenski ). Devoted father of Christina Leszczynski ( Eric ), Kimberly Roberts ( Steven McLaughlin ) and Joseph R. Roberts, Jr.  Brother of Calvin Roberts ( Lillian ), Bill Roberts , Steven Roberts, Judith Otto ( Roger ), Kathleen Swavely and the late Linda Miller. Grandpop of Eric, Jr., Alyssa and  Madison. Sadly missed by his best friend of 50 yrs, Bob Moore.  Also survived by his many nieces and nephews.   

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday  February 5, 2021 beginning at 6:30 PM until 8 PM in the   HUBERT M. McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2357 East Cumberland Street. 19125.  A private funeral service will follow for immediate family only.  Please be advised, that due to pandemic guidelines, a limited number of guests will be permitted in the funeral home at one time.  Social distancing and masks must be worn at all times.
