Joyce Marlene Bloom

Joyce Marlene (Settle) Bloom passed away into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Langhorne, Pa on January 5th, 2026 at the age of 88 years old. Joyce resided in Levittown, Pennsylvania where she had many friends and family. Joyce was born on June 21st, 1937 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Elmira Settle (Ryan), and the wife of Cyril Bloom. Joyce is survived by her four children; Karen Bloom- Geiges (James) of Richmond, Va, Susan Bloom- Reilly (William) of Feasterville, Pa, Tony Bloom (Judy) of Orleans, Mass, and Sheila Bloom of Annapolis, Maryland. She is survived by her grandchildren; James Geiges (Taylor), Daniel Geiges, Alexander Bloom, Marisa Bloom, Lily Reilly, and Erin Reilly- Haniebnik (Joe). Also her great-grandchildren; Connor Geiges, Grace Geiges, Avery Geiges, Abigail Geiges, Aiden Geiges, and Joseph Haniebnik. Joyce is predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Elmira Settle and her siblings Jerold Settle, Margaret Birely, John Settle, and Carol Snyder. She is survived by her siblings William Settle, Patricia Messatzzia, Cynthia Giles, Dennis Settle, and Donald Settle.
Joyce attended Altoona High School, graduating in 1955 and then proceeded to join the U.S. Air Force where she met her husband, Cyril. After marrying, Joyce converted to Judaism and later came to accept Jesus as her Messiah and Savior. Her faith became her guiding force in her life, where she was often heard saying “Praise the Lord”. Early on in her marriage, Joyce gave birth to four children while traveling the world with the Air Force. This gave her family the opportunity to experience many exciting journeys. After her husband retired from the military, the family settled in the Philadelphia area. Joyce was going back to her “roots” where many of her family lived. Joyce moved nineteen times during their military life. Her husband Cyril and her were involved with The American Legion, VFW, and Rakkisans (survivors of three wars).
Joyce’s business career started in retail sales, where she ascended into different management retail stores in the Philadelphia/New Jersey area. Joyce was also very proud of receiving her C.D.L. license from Neshaminy School District with her daughter Karen. This enabled them to drive school children to school and invest in their lives. While looking to find a more rewarding experience, Joyce landed her favorite position as a librarian at Belmont Hills Elementary School in Bensalem, Pa. Joyce spent over thirty years working as a librarian, retiring
at eighty years old. Joyce cherished working with all the young children that came through the school. It was common for Joyce to be somewhere, and a former student would come up to her and remind her of the love she gave them.
During her retirement years, Joyce was devoted to her faith (attending Emily Presbyterian Church). She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Joyce loved gardening, shopping, going out to eat, and storytelling about her life as a military person.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia at 13500 Philmont Ave, Philadelphia, Pa on February 6th, 2026. Visitation at 9:30am, service to follow at 11am, and Joyce’s ashes will be interred at a later date where she will be reunited with her husband Cyril Bloom at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
