Julia M. Floody (Hofmann) passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025 at the age of 93. She was born in Philadelphia to the late Leo and Edna (nee McGlynn) Hofmann.
Julia was a lifelong resident of Philadelphia and a proud Fishtowner. She was a graduate of St. Boniface Business School and went on to work for many years first as a bank teller and later as a medical billing clerk at St. Mary’s Hospital/Neumann. Throughout her working life, Julia balanced her career while lovingly raising her children and running her household—always placing the needs of others before her own.
Julia had a mother’s heart not only for her own children, but for their friends as well. It was often said that when her sons ran into old friends, the first question was never a greeting, but always, “How is your mom?”
Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were truly her number one. She cherished taking them on bus rides, shopping for clothes and gifts, or simply spending time at home playing games and being together.
Julia found happiness in helping others, which gave her great pleasure and purpose. She enjoyed relaxing with her favorite game shows and faithfully playing her numbers. Even in her later years, she remained fiercely independent and well known around the neighborhood for pushing a stroller filled with a bag of rocks rather than using a walker.
Julia touched countless lives, and anyone reading this obituary likely carries their own special memory of her—one that reflects her kindness, strength, and unmistakable presence.
Julia is the beloved wife of the late William. Devoted mother of Edward (Theresa), Joseph (Marybeth), Michael, and the late William. Loving Grandmom of Mary, Joseph, Leah, and great grandmother of Francesca. Dear sister of the late Leo, Mary, Florence, Caroline, and Tony. Sadly missed by her extended family and many friends and neighbors.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral Monday December 22, 2025 beginning at 10am in Holy Name of Jesus Church 701 Gaul Street (at Berks) Philadelphia, PA 19125, followed by her funeral mass at 11am. Interment Our Lady of Grace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in honoring Julia's memory, the family requests that those who are able to simply fill the church with your presence to celebrate her life during her funeral mass.
