Kevin J. Donlen Sr., age 61, passed away peacefully and in the comfort of his home on May 22, 2025.
Born in Philadelphia, Kevin was raised in the Fishtown neighborhood, where he developed the strong values and work ethic that defined his life. He later settled in Port Richmond with his beloved wife, Janet, where they raised their family together.
Kevin was a dedicated roofer and proud member of Roofers Local 30. He also had a deep passion for the vending industry, becoming an expert in jukeboxes and vending machines. Alongside his family, he acquired and operated Martha’s Vending, a business that brought him great pride and joy.
Kevin and his family moved to New Jersey, where he found happiness tending to his garden, relaxing by the pool, and enjoying the peace of his home. He also loved spending time down the shore and good food, especially sweets.
Kevin was known for his big personality—loud, boisterous, and always ready with a story. He told it like it was and wore his heart on his sleeve. If Kevin loved you, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for you. He was generous, loyal, and always the first to lend a hand, especially to his family.
He is the beloved husband of Janet L. Donlen (née O’Brien), devoted father of Dorrice O’Brien, Kevin J. Donlen Jr., and Brooke Marks (Joe), and cherished “Poppy” to Mya, Aiden, Keira, Jaxon, Memphis, Benjamin, and Joey. He is the dear son of Joann Corr and the late John Donlen, and the loving brother of Brian Donlen (Hazel) and the late Ronnie Donlen. He will also be deeply missed by the entire O’Brien family, whom he loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, beginning at 2:30 PM at the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home, 2357 East Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. A funeral service will follow at 4:30 PM.
Kevin’s larger-than-life spirit, deep love for his family, and generous heart will be remembered always.
