Manuel Beltran “Genaro” passed away peacefully early on Saturday July 22, 2023. He was 87 years old. He was born on January 19, 1936 in Moca, Puerto Rico to the late Juan Antonio Beltran and Evangelista Quintana.
Manuel moved from Puerto Rico to Vineland, New Jersey in the late 1950s and worked as a farm laborer for Tomasello Farms in Hammonton, New Jersey. In 1967, he met the love of his life Trudy and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Soon after they met, they began a family. Despite only having a 6th grade education, Manuel was able to support his family while allowing his wife to be a stay at home mom. He worked for Bond Bread with his late father in law Tex until he started construction work. Later, He worked for both Joseph Paolino and Seravalli Construction Companies and joined Laborer’s Local 57, of which he was a member for over 35 years.
Manuel was known as the block captain of 2000 Sergeant Street. He held the best block parties and was one of the few to hold his own sidewalk BBQ’s. He offered food and drink to anyone who walked by. He was truly a great friend and neighbor. His hobbies included cooking, gardening, and playing the daily lottery, especially scratch offs. This earned him the nickname “Scratchy”. Manuel will be greatly missed and forever loved by all those who knew him, especially his family.
Manuel was the most caring and beloved husband to the late Gertrude “Trudy” (née Yiambellis). Devoted and cherished father of Toni Gutierrez (Jose), Junior Beltran (Torie), Lisa Beltran (Brandon Johnson), Michael Beltran (Jacqueline), Terri Beltran, Krystina Beltran, and Frankie Smith (Denise). Loving grandfather of 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Carmen, Victoria, Delfin, Leonarda, Serafin, Irma, Gloria, Fredo, and the late Pasquale. Sadly missed by his brother and sister in law Bob and Ann Yiambellis and his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Thursday July 27, 2023 beginning at 8:30am in St. Peter the Apostle Church 1019 N. 5th Street Philadelphia, PA 19123 followed by his funeral mass at 10:30am. Interment Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA.
