Marie A. Grecco (nee Dougherty), age 80, of Wildwood, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on March 26, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Philadelphia on November 29, 1945 to the late Joseph and Anna (nee Swanson) Dougherty, Marie was a lifelong resident of the Flatiron section of the city, something she was most proud of. After retirement, she moved to her happy place in Wildwood.
Marie gave 100 percent to everything she did. As a mother, she was always there for her daughters, and then her grandchildren —for anything and everything—making sure they had all they needed and wanted, no matter how hard she had to work to provide it. She had an incredible work ethic, often working more than one job, and that same dedication carried into every part of her life.
Marie deeply loved her church, St. Anne Church, and was devout in her faith. She was equally devoted to parish activities, especially bingo, which she loved organizing each week. It brought her great joy not only to help but also to share laughter and friendship with the many people she met there.
Marie always put others before herself. She was a gracious hostess who made sure everyone around her was fed, comfortable, and cared for—even when she herself was not feeling well. Even through illness, she remained a true trooper, facing each day with strength and without complaint.
She loved living at the shore—the ocean, the sand between her toes, and the happiness of welcoming family and friends to her shore home, where her door was always open. Marie also had a fierce love and loyalty for her girlfriends, with whom she shared countless memories, laughter, and special moments that will always be treasured.
Marie will be remembered for her infectious smile and laugh and for her ability to be happy no matter what life brought her way. In her words “ Just make sure you are always happy. Happiness is a choice.” She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Marie is the devoted mother of Kimberly Juzwiak (Joe), Nancy Custer (Greg), and Joanne Bright (Dom). Loving Gram of Joey (Mindy), Gregory (Talia), Ian (Jamie), Taylor (Zach), Dominic (the late Kait), Cortney (Richie), and Harley. Sadly missed by her great grandchildren Gianna, Julianne, Wyatt, Everett, Francesca, Ayden, Gabriella, Hadleigh, Richie, and Brody. Dear sister of Francis Dougherty (Doris), and the late Joseph Dougherty Jr. (late Chris) and Raymond Dougherty (Betty Jane). Also survived by her nieces and nephews and her fur grandbaby Bear Boy.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral Tuesday April 7, 2026 from 7-9pm and Wednesday April 8, 2026 from 9-10am in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia, PA 19125. Funeral Mass 10:30am in St. Anne Church (upper) 2328 East Lehigh Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19125. Interment will be private and at a later date.
