Marie was born in Philadelphia to the late John and Madeline Murphy Mullen. She passed away peacefully , surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was a lifetime, born and raised Fishtowner . Marie was raised and loved by her late Uncle Ed and Aunt Alice Mullen. She was a sister/cousin to Ed, Barbara, Michael, Alice, Dennis, Mary and Matthew and the late John, Joe , Patricia and Thomas.
She was an active parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus Church and served as a lunch mother in the school for many years, where she was loved by the children. As a past time, she loved taking her walks in the neighborhood. For a while she worked at the Penn Home. Marie enjoyed camping at Hidden Acres and spending time at the Seniors 5 and 1 Club.
Marie is the beloved wife of 65 years to Alfred L. ( "Al" ) Szewczak. Cherished mother to Stephen, Marianne ( Joe ) Spross, Christopher ( Claire ) , and the late Alfred Jr.,( Anne Marie ) and Gerard. Loving grandmom /Mom Mom to Christina Johnston, Denise Sparks, Jennifer, Gerry, Lauren, Nicholas Spross, Brandon Spross, Matthew and Jeffrey. Great grandmom of Billy, Kelsey, Kylie, Evan, Ally, Nicholas, Brynn, Liam, Amelia, Ella Grace and Cole. Great Great grandmom of Braedyn and Jameson. Dear sister of Arlene Yates and the late Alice Henderson and Agnes Antonelli.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral on Saturday August 15, 2020, at 9 AM from the McELVARR FUNERAL HOME, 1415-17 East Susquehanna Avenue, Fishtown. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM, in Holy Name of Jesus Church.
Interment will be on Wednesday August 19, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. The procession will form at the Administration Bldg. at the cemetery at 10:15.
