Michael was born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia to the late Sarah Reed Shaw. He passed away peacefully at home with his loving children by his side. He attended Franklin Learning Center. Growing up, he loved to play basketball. His childhood friends remember him fondly. He recounted his many summers spent in Cape May with his grandmother.
Mike worked for Kopke Distribution Center, where he was valued by his co-workers, many of whom considered him both friend and family.
Mike was an avid fisherman. Fishing was his solace. He loved fishing with friends, his children, his grandchildren, and alone. He spent a lot of time, especially later in life, fishing off the shores in Cape May.
While he was a devoted father, Mike was an even more devoted grandfather. His grandchildren were everything to him. Whether it was attending dance recitals or taking them to Popp Popp’s place, that’s when he was happiest.
Mike would want to be celebrated instead of mourned. Please cherish any happy memories you have with him. He is reunited with his son, Jimbo, his mother, Sarah, and his dog, Bullet. While we miss him, we are happy for him.
He is the loving father of Michael DeClerico (Michele), James DeClerico, Rebecca Bohley (Brian) and Stacy Shaw. Pop Pop of Emily, Sarah,, Skylar, Kayden and Gracyn. Brother of Anne Marie Shaw-Gwirtz (Michael) and Thomas Shaw. Sadly missed by his longtime girlfriend Donna and her children Bridget and Riley.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing beginning at 9:30 AM on Tuesday January 16, 2024 in the HUBERT M. McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2357 East Cumberland Street where his Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM. Interment to follow in Hillside Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his beloved mother.
