Monty K. Gerome Sr., a lifelong resident of Philadelphia, passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 60.
Born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia to the late Vedo and Edith (née Wasnock) Gerome, Monty grew up with a deep love for his community and a strong work ethic. After graduating from high school, he built a successful career as an independent contractor in the construction industry—a trade he took pride in and worked tirelessly at for decades.
Monty had a vibrant spirit and a heart full of soul. He loved old cars and antiques, had a deep appreciation for R&B music, and was known to dance wherever the mood struck him—whether out at a club or right in his kitchen. He had a natural flair for cooking and style: always sharply dressed, with his hair just right.
Kind, funny, generous, and deeply romantic, Monty touched the lives of everyone he met. He was the type of man who would go out of his way to help a friend, crack a joke to lighten the mood, or show affection in the smallest, most meaningful ways. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgette Kerfoot Gerome, his parents, and his nephew Vincent.
Monty is survived by his loving son Monty K. Gerome Jr., cherished granddaughter Jasmine Georgette, and devoted fiancée Cynthia Jimenez. He also leaves behind his sister Edie Comuso, brother Vedo Gerome( Dawn Fitts), nieces Leanne, Bethany, and Bridget, nephew Vincent, as well as four great-nieces. He is also remembered fondly by his best friend Tommy. He is also survived by his children Christopher and Georgette.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and funeral on Thursday evening May 22, 2025 beginning at 7:00 PM at Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home, 2357 East Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. His funeral service will follow at 8:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests and appreciates any contributions toward Monty’s final expenses.
