Ray was born in Philadelphia to Genevieve Davis Brandenburg McCleery and the late Raymond Brandenburg Sr. He passed away unexpectedly at Jefferson Neuro Hospital after a massive stroke.
He was a proud US Army Veteran serving two tours of duty. In the first he served from 1959 to 1962. On his second tour of active duty from 1965 to 1968, in Vietnam, he was wounded in action. He attained the rank of E-4.
Ray was a general all around handyman, doing electrical and construction work. He was the owner and operator of a number of Hair and Beauty Salons in the city, Kensington Ave, Roxborough and Chadds Ford. He was a man that would pick up and take off driving where ever the wanderlust would lead him. Back and forth to Florida and desert trips in the west. He enjoyed fishing.
Surviving him, in addition to his mother, who is 99, he is the father of Florence Owens ( Paul ), Raymond Haines ( Krissy ), Mary Stocklin ( Scott ) and Nova Brandenburg. Grandfather of Laura, Paul, Jr., Felicia, Daniel, Charity, Erin, Tiffany, RJ, Jr., Ashley, Brandon, Autumn, Billy and Macie. Greatgrandfather of Nicholas, Brooke, Paul III, Shiloh, MacKenzie, RJ III, Hailey and Jaxon. Brother of Genevieve Hendricks and Mary Morrison.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service, on Monday November 18, 2019 at 1 PM in the McELVARR FUNERAL HOME, FISHTOWN. where his viewing will begin at 12 Noon. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
