Robert McCloskey Obituary

Robert McCloskey “Boogs” or “Boogaloo Bob” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Robert and Frances (nee Elezko). Bob is the beloved husband of almost 50 years to Kathleen Davis. Devoted father of Angela Davis. Loving Pop of Garrett Miller III, Haley Miller, and Aidan Miller. Dear brother of Caroline D’Amico (late Junior), Michael McCloskey (Elsie), and the late Jane McAlinden (late James). Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, the Davis family, and his best friend Thomas “Hawke” McFeeley.

Robert, a lifelong resident of the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, having spent his entire life on the same block of Cabot Street. He took great pride in his Irish and Ukrainian heritage and was deeply rooted in the community he loved.

Known to many as “Bob,” he was a gifted athlete and a neighborhood baseball legend. His talent on the field even drew the attention of a professional team, the Philadelphia Hobos. Beyond sports, Bob enjoyed the outdoors—he was an avid fisherman and hunter—and he never passed up the excitement of placing a friendly bet at the horse track. He also had a passion for good food, great company, and the Oldies, especially Motown.

What truly set Bob apart, though, was his love of dancing. His energetic moves and on the dance floor earned him the nickname "Boogaloo Bob", a name that stuck with him for life and brought smiles to many.  In his later years, Bob found his greatest joy in the company of his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
