April 8, 1987, in Norfolk, Virginia, and lived for many years in the Western U.S., in Arizona and
California. He was a 2005 graduate of Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista, and earned full
academic scholarship to Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, CA, where he majored in Chemistry. He
was an avid musician, adeptly playing piano, guitar, saxophone, and other instruments.
Innately curious and intelligent, Stuart loved researching topics of interest, reading, and sharing
his findings with friends and family. A kind and gentle soul with a massive sense of humor, he
will be missed by his mother Karen L. Thomas (Joseph Giandonato, III) of Somers Point, NJ,
his father, John J. Shimkus (Sandy Calgaro) of Philadelphia, his brother John T. Shimkus, of
San Diego, California, brother Dylan T. French and nephew Sunshine Lorenc-French of Glide,
Oregon, his grandmother Cecilia A. Thomas of Virginia Beach, his stepbrother Joseph
Giandonato IV (Kelli) of Harleysville, PA, his stepfather Gerald J. French of Glide, Oregon, and
many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in

Stuart’s life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. at IATSE Ballroom, 2401 S.
Swanson Street, Philadelphia, PA.
