Thelma Montgomery Obituary

Thelma M. Montgomery "Nanny", 86, of Weatherly, PA (formerly of Philadelphia), passed away February 6, 2021. She was married for 46 years to her husband Eugene, who passed in 2002. She is predeceased by her son Eugene Jr., Son-in-law Joseph Bradley, and grandchildren David and Dawn. She is survived by her 7 other children: Nick (Pat), Donna Buck (Tom), Michael (Kathy), Peggy, Kaye, Billy (Kathleen), and Cyndi Bradley. She is also survived by siblings, Alfred and Margie, and dozens of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom loved her dearly and kept in touch regularly. She was never lonely.

Her early life was devoted to raising her eight children on Oakdale Street in Kensington and hosting numerous parties and demonstrations. She enjoyed country music, Elvis Presley, playing rummy, doing puzzle books, and watching soap operas. Her later life was devoted to witnessing with immense joy and beaming pride the milestones and events, big and small, of all those in her circle of family and friends. She never passed up a chance to go to a birthday party, baseball game, soccer match, school play, graduation, communion, or wedding. She taught us all how to be an amazing parent, grandparent, aunt, cousin, sister, and friend.

On Friday October 1st, we will have a Celebration of Life for our mother, Thelma Montgomery. We will begin with a gathering at 8:30am in the upper level of St. Anne's Church (Memphis Street and East Lehigh Ave.), with a Mass to follow at 9:30am. At the conclusion of Mass, we will process to Washington's Crossing National Cemetery (830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940) for the interment at 11:30am, where she will be laid to rest with our father Eugene, A Korean War Veteran, who served in the U.S. Air Force, and who will be interred with military honors, "Honoring Those Who Served". Following interment, all are invited to the home of Michael and Kathy Montgomery in Somerdale, NJ for food and refreshments in an outdoor setting, and to share the wonderful memories of our mother, Thelma Montgomery. Directions will be provided. For the good health and safety of all, especially children and those most susceptible to illness, the family respectfully urges those who attend to abide by local public health measures in place at that time.

Also, donations made in Thelma's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital would be a wonderful tribute to her uncommon love for children. The family deeply appreciates all the love and support you have given them at this time.
