Thomas "Sonny" Dillon

Thomas Dillon "Sonny" passed away on May 1, 2023, with his loving family by his side.  He was born in Philadelphia to the late Thomas and Regina (nee Gibbs) Dillon on December 15, 1949.

Thomas was raised for most of his life in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, in Visitation BVM parish, and later raised his own family in the same area. He enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was stationed on the USS Saratoga, an aircraft carrier. Sonny served his country proudly and later entered the workforce as a Hydraulic Mechanic for the Navy Shipyard. He was very talented in his profession and was a very hard worker up until his retirement. 

Thomas was a family man who loved spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains where he would visit the family he had there. He also loved taking pictures of his family and would make jokes that he was never in them because " he was the man behind the camera". Sonny loved to cook and bake and was the first to volunteer to bake the birthday cakes and cupcakes for the kids in the family. When he was still able, he loved to ride his motorcycle in his free time. 

Thomas will be remembered as an all-around great guy who was a bit of a prankster and if you ask his family, they would joke that he was a little bit of a complainer. He was happiest being around those he loved, listening to classic rock, especially Creedence Clearwater Revival, enjoying a nice cold Pepsi, and always carrying some Smarties in his pocket. He will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved him. 

Thomas is the beloved husband of Theresa (nee Jackson). Devoted father of Thomas, Sharon Gillespie (Shannon), Kathleen (Mike), Robert, Gregory (Dorothy), Matthew Gutekunst, Theresa, and the late Joseph. Sadly missed by his 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Edward (Joyce) and his nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Monday May 8, 2023 beginning at 10am in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia PA 19125. Funeral service 12pm. Thomas will be laid to rest at a later date in Barrancas National Cemetery Pensicola, Florida with his beloved son Joseph.
