Walter Martin Rhoads, Jr., affectionately known as 'Hunky' or "Walt the Legend", passed away peacefully at his Fishtown home on July 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1953 to the late Walter Sr., and Catherine Dillon Rhoads.
Walter leaves behind the love of his life, Evelyn Rhoads (nee McAnally), his son, Walter (Blu) Rhoads III (Karen): his brother Thomas (Kathy); and his sister Dorothea (Louis), sister-in-law Susie and his precious niece Susan. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Walter understood family stands together and was always a loyal defender of his people.
Preceding Walter in death were his parents and siblings Mary, Louisa, Winifred, Barbara, Clara, and his brother Johnny., who is surely waiting in heaven with a dartboard ready for a match.
Walter was passionate fan of the Eagles, enjoyed playing basketball and had a love for 3 card poker. Walt was known for his legendary 3 point shot from the top of the key and dart throwing skills as a Rhoads Brother. As a kid he was a city champ in swimming for his playground, Newts and got the nickname 'Hunky' from his legendary goalie skills on the soccer field.
Walter's competitive spirit and fierce love of family will be missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Gather and Celebrate Walter's Life on Saturday, August 3, 2024, beginning at 12 Noon until 4 PM, in the HUBERT M. McBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2357 East Cumberland Street. Prayers and Words of Remembrance will be at 1:30 PM when Military Honors will also be rendered.
