William F. Gleason “Duke” passed away peacefully on April 3, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. Beloved husband of the late Lois (née Stanton) and the late Dolores (née Traverse). Devoted father of Colleen Adair, Glenn (Ruth), and the late William, Yvonne, Suzanne, and John Stanton. Dear brother of Thomas “Tetley” (Mary), James “Moon” (late Rosemary), and the late Michael “Mick” (late Marie), Joseph “Hogan” (Teresa), and Maureen “Reen” Pauly (Joe). Sadly missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Duke was raised in Philadelphia and stayed there to raise his own family before settling in the Timber Trails Community in Pocono Pines. He was a hard worker who worked first on the railroads and then as a proud Philadelphia Firefighter. He later went on to open a roofing and contracting company Wm. Gleason and Sons. In his downtime, Duke enjoyed golfing, playing cards, buying his lottery tickets, and socializing. He was a great story teller and his family will always remember him for his wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed but his family takes comfort that he will be reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation and funeral Thursday April 8, 2021 beginning at 9:30am in the Hubert M. McBride Funeral Home 2357 East Cumberland Street Philadelphia PA 19125. Funeral service and words of remembrance 11am. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the Firefighters Hero Scholarship Fund of Philadelphia 1617 JFK Blvd. Suite 933 Philadelphia PA 19103.
